I have the same kind of hair - here's what I do when I want a curly 'do'.

First off - make the most of what you have!

Do you blow dry your hair? If so, STOP. It's the worst thing to do.

When you get out of the shower, and dry your hair, DON'T rub it or try to pull it straight. CRUNCH your hair against your scalp and wrap it in the towel you used to dry (the towel should ideally be a little damp). Leave it that way for 10-15 minutes, then shake it loose, but DON'T comb or brush - use a pick to just sort things out.

Use a curl enhancing product and a diffuser. That will bring out your natural curl.

You need to buy velcro rollers and lots of bobby pins. After you get out of the shower you need to comb your hair and then put your hair in rollers, as if you were perming it. Hold the rollers in place with atleast two bobby pins on each. Sleep with your hair like this, that way it can naturally dry. It should end up curly in the morning. Make sure you don't tangle the curlers together. You won't be able to brush your hair in the morning, so that is a must. Mist on hair spray and shake your head from side to side.

I use a lot of gel and mousse and scrunch it into my hair when it is wet. Then i put a little bit of gel in one hand and use a blow dryer while scruching more in while it is drying.

At Sallys they have a great item i use for my hair called Beyond the Zone.. its a bright orange bottle with purple, they have a cream gel, then a spray, shampoo and conditners, it works great for my hair. my hair is the same way, it gets tangled fast so it doesnt turn out great! but with these items everyone loves my hair and always ask is that your natural curl, and i just smile and say i get some help =]... on the bottles the product says to enhance natural curls!

try a curling shampoo such as "curl n' wash" or a curl enhancing serum, then either use hot rollers/curlers or try curling your hair with an iron with a smaller head and then sprits hair spray after each curl, my hair has the same problem, so I just use hot rollers, but I would say just try different things
