have your hairdresser 'thin out' your hair. i have poofy hair myself, and when i went to get it cut, my hairdressed used a razor to thin my hair out so that i can style it straight. works like a charm! (you still have to use products, of course)

use something like redken water wax or graphic wax, it kind of makes it look wet, I dunno, maybe thats not what you are looking for. also biosilk might be good

you could try getting a 1 year perm. that would keep it straight all the time until the years up and then you'll have to do it over again.

you could try using olive oil to soften it before u take a shower in an hour and it'll definitely get softer (especially if you keep doing it all the time) and then take a shower using conditioner and all that.

you might still have to straight it but it wont be as frizzy and poofy

my hair gets poofy also...

use a straightner, that's what i use.

but make sure to put some protective cream so that you don't damage you hair

Definitely have to straighten it. Try using some pomade to slick it down a little. "Skater soft smooth hair" doesn't make sense to me for you, but maybe with your type of hair you could look into a different Skater style. Smooth hair to me implies straight hair which doesn't poof, but then again you would use the pomade for that.

Yep. A straightener is the way to go. If it's really curly, I would suggest a Chi. They straighten hair really good. Hope that helps! =D
