I have thick wavy hair, if I straighten it will it get frizzy and unmanageable?

it is shoulder length

If you mean chemically straighten, yes...it WILL still get frizzy and unmanageable...it will just be a different kind of fizzy and unmanageable. So you'll have chemically, permanently altered (read:damaged) and frizzy hair. Black women suffer this irony all the time. While it's still hard on the hair, flat ironing is better if you do it occasionally (go to a salon). If you live in a humid part of the country, it will definitely frizz. Start with it flat ironed and as it begins to naturally curl, change your hairstyle to go with it. For example, slick de-frizz products on your hair (especially the ends of hair) and put your hair in two relatively tight braids before going to bed. In the morning it will be "wavy" but the waves should be looser than your hair normally is AND it should minimize some of the volume. Just DON'T COMB your hair in the morning...FINGER STYLE only. Another trick is showering at night rather than in the morning. Your hair gets to set over night and you aren't introducing two stages of humidity to your hair in the morning (i.e. in the shower and then once you get outside). I have naturally curly/kinky hair and I am able to take my hair from straightened to wavy to super curly-coiled doing this...and it keeps my hair healthy. : )

It's a big decision, because if you do it the wrong way, you could ruin it for life. Best to figure out good ways of making your natural hair look good.

Yes it will. Whats wrong with thick wavy hair? Nothing , do not straighten it because my sister did and boy!!! did it get frizzy

Keep your thick wavy hair. Most people want wavy hair anyways. Mine is natural curly, and it gets frizzie in the humid weather we have, Bood luck!!!

Not if you find a good stylist who knows hair. My wife has the same type of hair, and she get it straightened from time to time.

After a hair wash - put John Frieda de-frizz on hair (can get this from a salon) - then blow dry hair - and then straighten hair with hair straighteners - and then use serum - should do the trick

I wouldn't straighten it, get it thinned, and have it cut to a style that you can just wash it and dry. Be happy with the hair you have, you can't change it

I remember when I was younger, If someone wantted stright hair we would, use a damp cloth %26amp; lay hair on ironing board %26amp;iron it.. Just don,t burn it It looks nice %26amp; will not hurt you a bit . Or your hair.Put the cloth over your hair it only takes a sec. with the iron.

I have thick wavy hair, and girl, it is the best hair because you can do with it as you please.

Do not straighten it chemichally, just get an iron straightener for wet hair. Passing your wet hair will "steam" it and leave it completely straight. Apply a gloss and you're all set.

Still if you feel a need for chemichal straightening, you can use Luxevan mild straightener creme. Apply with a comb, let it stay for 15 minutes and rinse away. Afterwards you may want to use rollers and let hair airdry.
