I have super thick wavy hair too and I get it layered, just in long layers. It really helps make it not feel sooo thick, but if the top layer gets cut too short it looks like I have a bell for a hair do.

I always get my thick curly hair layered. it is the only way i bring out the curl and control the tangles and weight of it. just make sure you don't get the layers too short and get the right products for your type of hair. everyone is different so you may have to find a few different combinations.
